I have had an opportunity in the last month to attend some great Fountain Hills events. I attended two of the In-Home Concerts put on by the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association. The talent was amazing! The first one was a 5 octave vocalist, Darlene Koldenhoven. She has performed with Yani and numerous others. Then I attended a Jazz and Classical Harp concert by Carrol McLaughlin - not only has she played all over the world, but she has the only rights to play any of Harp Marx's music AND she has his orriginal trench coat! She was as good of a story teller between songs as she was on her harp... named Bertha. If you have not attended any of these I would absolutely recommend it. It's pretty incredible to be watching these performers in someones living room. For more information you can visit their website at http://www.fountainhillscca.org/.

It's hard to believe that the holiday season is upon us again. Halloween has come and gone, Thanksgiving is in just around the corner, then Christmas and Chanukah. I have to admit that I do miss having a White Christmas, but it's a small sacrifice in the grand scheme of things.
The 3rd Annual Pets and Their People costume contest was another smash hit. I think there were about 100 entries this year. So, each year has been bigger and better than the last. The costumes were adorable and you could tell that people really put a lot of effort in it. The stage, the music, and the judges all made for a real top notch event sponsored by Sami Jack of Sami's Fine Jewelry. No, my Jake & Elwood did not get to participate... maybe next year. After the pet contest we had all the liittle trick or treater's on the Avenue. A good time was had by all! Follow this link to see all the photos. http://s920.photobucket.com/albums/ad42/SamiJewelry/Pets%20N%20Their%20People/
The next big Fountain Hills event will be the Thanksgiving day Parade. I think it's the largest parade west of the Mississippi. If you are in town you should come on down and join in the fun! Or, maybe you could run in the 5K Turkey Trot? It's always good to burn a few calories before the big feast. Wherever you are, I wish you and your family a very Happy Thanksgiving. Lisa...

Saturday the 28th was a big night in Fountain Hills. It was a double header starting with the annual River of Time Museum Spaghetti Dinner Fundraiser. The dinner was held at the Community Center and was attended by about 350 people. The spaghetti was catered by Redendo's and they did a fantastic job as always. There was both a silent auction and a live auction with non other than John Kavanaugh as the auctioneer. The biggest excitement, however, was probably a microburst that blew through town and even knocked over one of the large bronze art pieces! Hopefully, there was lot's of money raised for the museum. A big thank you to Debbie Skehen for a great job putting it all together!
Following this event was another fundraiser for Team Rychard and the Phoenix Aids Walk. This was held at the Fireside Grille and was also well attended. They also held a silent auction - but, the highlight of the evening was a performance by Liza Minneli! I think a good time was had by all, so hopefully lot's of money was raised for their cause and Liza will come back and perform for us again next year. If you missed it you can view this video of Liza's opening act.

On Friday, February 19th, an informal gathering will be held from 5-7 PM at the Presbyterian Church to acquaint you with two of our candidates for town council.
As you know, Town Council elections are scheduled for Tuesday, March 9th. Please vote either in person or by mail-in ballot. This is a non-partisan election, but party affiliation does show the basic prism from which all candidates and elected officials view the world and is the basis for all decisions. There are two Republicans in the race, Tail Elkie and Hugh Henry. I ask that you vote for both of them so that we can have a strong conservative presence on the Town Council.
Fiscal conservatives are needed on Council during these difficult times. Our Town's future depends on good fiscal planning and follow-through. Your Board endorses both Tait Elkie and Hugh Henry and strongly recommends that you vote for them. There are many difficult decisions to be made that affect all of us The first response should not be "raise taxes". Neither Hugh nor Tait will have that as their first response.
To better acquaint Fountain Hills residents with both candidates, the club is hosting a "PIZZA AND POLITICS" open house at the Fountain Hills Presbyterian Church on Friday, February 29th from 5 - 7 p.m. If you don't know Tait and Hugh please come, meet and talk to them. If you already know Tait and Hugh, bring you neighbors to the event. We are convinced that once you meet and listen to them, they will have your vote, There will be free pizza, beer, wine, water and soft drinks. I hope to see you and your neighbors there.
If you are not registered to vote, it is too late to do so for this election, but it is time to register for the August primary and the November general elections. You may register by going to azsos.gov, mouse over the "elections" tab and select "Voter Information", then click on "Register to Vote" (which takes you to http://www.azsos.gov/election/VoterRegistration.htm) and then follow the instructions.
If you are registered and not on the Permanent Early Ballot list, you may request an early ballot by going on-line to http://recorder.maricopa.gov/ and clicking on Elections and Voter Information towards the bottom of the page, then on the new page, click on "Request an Early Ballot" on the right side of the page. That takes you to https://recorder.maricopa.gov/earlyvoteballotnet/evbrequest.aspx where you fill out the form. An alternative is to call 602-506-1511.
Hope to see you on the 19th!

Last week, as a member of the Fountain Hills Chamber of Commerce Leadership Program, a group of the Leaders took a tour of Go Daddy's corporate head quarter's in Scottsdale. They have really managed to create a fun work atmosphere and adhere to a pretty simple business model. If you work hard, there is likely room for advancement. However, I think the best thing that I learned that day was to take advantage of opportunities that you encounter and get out of your own way!
If you are a member of the FHCC and have not yet participated in the Leadership Program I would HIGHLY recommend it! Check out all of the Leaders below.
